On September 28 and 29, the re-consecration of the Mother Cathedral and the Blessing
of the Holy Myron ceremonies took place.
The Cathedral’s Restoration Program began in 2012 and proceeded in phases until
November 2018. During this time, the canonization ceremony and the blessing of the
Myron took place in 2015, and in 2016, Pope Francis visited the Mother Cathedral.
Now, after nearly six years of construction work, the Mother Cathedral has once again
been reopened to the entire Armenian community.
The re-consecration of the Cathedral was performed by his Holiness Karekin II, the
Catholicos of all Armenians. Patriarchal Divine Liturgy was held, attended by high-
ranking state officials, including Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, community Mayor
Diana Gasparyan, and invited representatives.
