The Day of Commemoration of the victims of the Armenian Genocide was marked in Ejmiatsin by the opening of the statue of Komitas in front of the Culture House named after him.
The author of the bronze sculpture is Artashes Sargsyan, a 20-year-old talented sculptor, whose dream was creating a statue of Vardapet and presenting it to the city. By the way, he will join the Armenian army this year.
The statue was supposed to be open on October 8, on the City day, but the war upset all the plans, and the opening ceremony took place on April 24.
The employees of the Municipality, the members of the Council of Elders, the representatives of the educational and cultural institutions, the relatives of the sculptor were present at the opening of the bronze sculpture.
Mayor Diana Gasparyan and Father Artak Senior Priest Simonyan delivered speeches.
Those present commemorated the victims of the Genocide by praying and laying flowers at the statue of Komitas, who himself experienced the calamity of the Genocide.
