In the past four months the Municipality of Ejmiatsin has received more than 400 calls about wandering dogs, even calls about the attacks by dogs. Based on the urgency of the problem, sterilization was chosen as a civil way of solving the problem of wandering dogs. According to the field experts, the level of aggressiveness of the sterilized dogs decreases; the dogs become quieter. The program was launched in Ejmiatsin on February 11. From now on, dogs with ear tags will walk around in Ejmiatsin: the ear tags will mean these dogs are sterilized, vaccinated, dewormed, have a caregiver and won’t cause any danger. Days after the surgery the first six sterilized dogs were set free at the same place.
The process also includes provision of statistics, mapping, identification and care of wandering dogs in Ejmiatsin.
